Art Therapy for Adult Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse.

The current study sought to determine the utilization and perceived effectiveness of art therapy with adult male and female survivors of childhood sexual abuse by mental health professionals. A total of 33 therapists were surveyed. A researcher-constructed survey measuring 13 aspects of mental health created by the researcher, was distributed to the participants. Results indicated that participants perceived art therapy to be moderately effective in reducing male and female mental health issues surrounding childhood sexual abuse. No significant differences were found when comparing the effectiveness of art therapy on males versus females.
