Sexual violence is a violation of human rights and a major public health issue. The Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) is working towards eliminating sexual violence by strengthening the evidence base to inform policy and service development and prevention programmes through the promotion of and building capacity for research on sexual violence, with particular emphasis on research in resource poor countries (Sexual Violence Research Initiative, 2006).
