The report Schools that Care, which presents the key findings of a scoping study on the links between education and children’s care.
Currently, the linkages between children’s education and their care are not widely recognised. More effective collaboration between the education, child protection and care sectors is urgently needed and will support the mutually reinforcing goals of children achieving rights to education and to adequate care and protection.
The report argues that children’s rights to education and care are inextricably linked, with a loss of adequate care commonly pushing children out of school, and education systems having the potential to help prevent unnecessary family separation, abuse and neglect. It is further argued that education systems need to adapt to better support children in different forms of alternative care.
The research presented in this report was led by a reference group of members of Family for Every Child: Butterflies in India; Challenging Heights in Ghana; ChildLink in Guyana; Partnership for Every Child in Russia and Uyisenga ni Imanzi in Rwanda.
